Split the hoagie roll in half to make a sandwich then lightly toast it face down it in a large dry skillet. Remove and set aside.
Using the same skillet you used to toast the roll, fry the ground beef until it's no longer pink. Drain the fat and place the ground beef in a medium size bowl.
Add 1-2 tablespoons of olive to the skillet and fry the onions until they are soft, tender, and slightly charred. Add a pinch of salt to the onions are they are cooking.
Once the onions are cooked add the ground beef back into the skillet and stir to combine.
Top the ground beef/onion mixture with slices of the American cheese. Cover the skillet and let it melt.
Place the ground beef with the melted cheese onto the roll.
Top with your favorite toppings.
Notes
Use a gluten-free roll if needed. If you can find the new Greenlite Rolls they work really well for this sandwich.Topping Suggestions:Pickles, lettuce, roasted or sweet peppers, long hots, ketchup, tomatoes
