Slow Cooker Pork Ribs

Pork Ribs coated in bbq sauce and topped with sliced green onions. The ribs are cut into sections and stacked onto each other.

These slow cooker pork ribs are so tender, they fall right off the bone. Finish them on the grill for 10 min and brush them with your favorite bbq sauce.

I don’t have a lot of slow cooker recipes in my arsenal, this Slow Cooker French Dip Sandwiches and this Slow Cooker Chuck Roast are some of my favorites.

I love these slow cooker pork ribs because not only are they easy to make, it’s mostly a hands off experience. The pork ribs become so tender they fall off the bone, and giving them a few minutes on a grill enhances the flavor and lets the bbq sauce stick to the ribs.

Equipment

  • Slow Cooker/ Crockpot
  • BBQ Grill

Ingredients

  • Ribs – Use pork spare ribs here
  • Spice Rub – I used this Sweet Rib Rub but you can also use your favorite rub or just sprinkle the ribs with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and a bit of brown sugar.
  • BBQ Sauce – Use your favorite bbq sauce

Instructions

  1. Lay the ribs out onto a baking sheet pat dry then liberally coat both sides with the sweet rib rub.

2. Add the ribs to the slow cooker/crockpot and set it for 4 hours on high or 8 hours on low.

3. Gently remove the pork ribs from the crockpot and discard any liquids.

4. Pre-heat the grill to 400°F and then place the pork ribs onto the grill grates and coat one side with the bbq sauce. Wait a few minutes, then flip and coat the other side with the bbq sauce. Then remove from the grill.

5. Place the ribs onto a tray and cut them into large sections.

6. Drizzle them with more bbq sauce and top them with sliced green onions or minced parsley if desired.

Recipe Tips
  • Cut the ribs into large sections for easier handling before placing them into the slow cooker/crockpot
  • Do not add any liquid to the slow cooker as the ribs will generate enough liquid.
  • Ribs will be super tender once they are done in the slow cooker so be careful when taking them out.
  • The ribs only need to be on the grill for a few minutes on each side to get the bbq sauce nice and sticky

Notes

The rib rub amounts are estimates, you can sprinkle more or less onto them as desired. I like to use this Sweet Rib Rub.
For easier handling you can cut the ribs into sections before placing them into the crockpot.
The ribs go into the crockpot without any liquid as they will make their own as they cook.
If you don’t want to use the rub, you can simply make a mixture with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and a bit of brown sugar in a small bowl. Then rub it all over both sides of the ribs then place the ribs into the crockpot.
