Ingredients
Brioche or Gluten-Free Bread – Use thick slices of brioche or your favorite gluten-free bread. This is a favorite gluten-free bread that I use.
Milk – Whole Milk is recommended but you can use your favorite milk or non-dairy milk.
Egg – You will need 1 large egg
Cinnamon – Use your favorite cinnamon
Orange Juice – OJ enhances the flavor of the custard.
Vanilla Extract – For added flavor
Salt – Use fine sea salt
Maple Syrup – To drizzle over the french toast
Butter – Salted butter is recommended but unsalted will also work
Toppings – Fresh fruit such as strawberries, bananas, peaches, nuts, etc.

Instructions
Slice the bread into thick slices.
In a large shallow bowl add the 1 cup of milk, 1 large egg, 1 tsp of cinnamon, 1/2 tsp of vanilla extract, 1 tbsp of orange juice, and 1/8 tsp of sea salt. Mix well until fully combined.

Add the sliced bread to the custard in batches. Let it sit in the custard for a few minutes, then flip the sliced bread and let it soak in the custard for another 1-2 minutes. Repeat as needed until all the bread is fried.

In a large skillet add enough butter to coat the bottom of it once it’s melted.
Remove the sliced bread from the custard letting excess batter run off, then place the bread into the skillet. Cook as many slices as you can in the skillet.
Fry the one side of the bread until lightly crispy and brown approximately 1 minute, then flip and brown the second side.
Repeat using the rest of the slices, adding more butter as needed.

Once the bread is lightly browned remove to a plate and top with a bit of butter, desired fruit toppings, powdered sugar and a drizzle of maple syrup.
